Shehike Atlanta is an informal group of adult women who meet regularly
to go hiking. Our hikes typically range from 1-5 miles in length, or
2-4 hours, timewise. We are kicking off the start of our hikes this
March, 2010. We are looking to grow into a huge hiking group across the
south and beyond! To learn more about how our group and this website
came about, read the About Us section of the website and
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Whether you are new to the Atlanta
area or have lived here your entire life, Shehike Atlanta is a great
way to explore the outdoors of Georgia and the Southeast (and sometimes
beyond) with a fun, friendly and active group of like minded women.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our membership is diverse, not only in terms of hiking ability, but
also in age. Some of us may be pretty experienced, speedy, "trail
blazer" hiking types, while others prefer to walk at a slower pace.
Some are just getting started in this thing called "hiking". The bulk
of us, though, probably fall somewhere in between. Age-wise, we are the
young and the young at heart! Mostly, we are 30-, 40-, and
50-somethings.
Each month we have regular outdoor activities such as hiking, camping,
backpacking, caving, white water rafting, kayaking and canoeing as well
as a monthly social event, and "special" outdoor activities such as
survival skills classes, rock climbing, boating, caving and
environmental support projects.
There is no yearly membership fee to join our group. We hike on public
trails around the metro area, so membership is and will always be FREE!

OFTEN REFERRED TO AS THE WALLS OF HEAVEN! ENJOY.
Walking is a great
exercise, lowering your risk for illnesses such as heart disease and
diabetes, builds your bones, and improves your general health, and your
mood. Walking also is a great way to burn calories.
Walking
nature trails burns twice the number of calories burned by walking in
urban environments. And the steeper the trail, the more calories
are burned!
Even so, it’s important for you to observe some simple rules before and during your hike, to ensure your safety and comfort.
